MSM and travelling to New York?

index.11

Toronto Public Health urges vaccination against bacterial meningitis for MSM (men who have sex with men) travelling to New York.

Since 2010, Twenty-two cases of bacterial meningitis have been reported in New York City among MSM.  Public health authorities in New York have disclosed that seven of the 22 infected people have died, including three from the most recent five cases.

Cases of meningitis related to the New York outbreak have not been reported in Canada.  However, because of travel and subsequent connections between sexual networks of MSM in the U.S. and Canada, Toronto Public Health recommends that MSM who are planning to travel to New York City receive the ACYW-135 meningococcal conjugate vaccine, if they are HIV-positive or may have close or intimate contact with other men in New York City.

HARS is 25!

Opening Doors/Changing Lives

HARS (HIV/AIDS Regional Services) will be holding open auditions for our upcoming HARS 25th Anniversary.  Our celebration theme is OPENING DOORS / CHANGING LIVES.

We are currently searching for several volunteer acts to fill an hour of entertainment for our anniversary, which could revolve around our theme and /or agency.

This fantastic celebration will be held at THE RENAISSANCE on November 2, 2013.  We will be featuring guest speakers, dinner, entertainment and a dance will follow.  Anticipated guest list is 100 plus, so you must be ready to put aside any stage fright.

Please prepare your comedy / dramatic sketch or monologue, song, poem, with or without musical background (your choice) or any act that you may feel would be of any entertaining interest and value towards our celebrations.

This is a voluntary call out, therefore there is no compensation towards your contribution, but many thanks will be given.  All acts should not exceed 13 minutes and must bring all necessary props to successfully complete or enhance their performance.

If you are interested in trying out for this event Please leave your name , telephone number and e-mail address at HARS,  with a brief description of your talent so that we may contact you to arrange a date for try outs.

Anticipated date of try outs will be given near the end of April 2013. Please contact the HARS office prior to April 2013 if interested

Thank you to all anticipated participants!

Every Penny Counts at HARS!

Penny Legacy

As we all know the pennies are being taken out of circulation. We all probably have some in a jar or bowl.  This is a way that you can make them count.  We are collecting pennies (for that matter any loose change) and with the change we are going to purchase a piece of kitchen equipment for Jeannie’s Place.  That means your loose change will make a huge impact on the life of the service users who use this service.  So help us in making this happen by dropping off your coins in the large jar at the front of the office.
